Background

Nylah was born in the city of Ala Mhigo during the reign of Theoderic, the King of Ruin. She grew up with only her father to look after her. He was a merchant that took regular trips to the Far East, where he would sell his wares. He was particularly skilled in carpentry. The way he could move and shape the wood fascinated Nylah to no end and she would take that fascination to the carpenter’s guild in Gridania twenty years later.When the unrest started that eventually allowed Gaius van Baelsar to take over Ala Mhigo, her father ran from the city with her as fast as they could. His plan was to make it to Gridania in the hopes of finding some sanctuary from the fighting.However, it was not to be. They made it all the way to The Fringes before they were attacked by a wounded, enraged bear. Her father fought it off the best he could, but the bear ended the winner of their duel.Alone and scared, Nylah hid from Garleans and animals alike until she was found by a miqo’te from the M Tribe. They took her back to their home and raised her as one of them. She stayed with them for a long time, learning the ways of the hunt, but she never forgot her father’s last wish.When The Calamity struck, she used the chaos caused by it to flee up and over the wall and into the Shroud at last. She traveled for a long time alone before she happened upon a carriage that took her the rest of the way to her new home. There, she took up the lance and became an adventurer in order to be able to make something of herself and eventually fight back against the monsters that took her home, her family.

Hooks

  • When she was a child, she would travel all over, particularly to the Far East and the Azim Steppe, with her father as he traded his carpentry wares and skills. Were you childhood friends during one of those stops? Do you have some knowledge of her father?

  • She grew up in The Fringes with her mother's tribe, the M Tribe. Are you also part of that tribe or else from Gyr Abania? Did you know her when she was a teenager or young adult?

  • Her first stop post escaping past the Wall was Gridania where she took up a post with the Twin Adders and spent time perfecting her already honed skill with a lance. While there, she also learned carpentry to feel closer to her father. Were you a friend or a colleague during this period? A rival perhaps?

  • Nylah constantly travels the world as her father did before her. She loves to see the sights and meet people. Sometimes along the way she picks up "strays" as her ever growing found family says. Are you one of those? Or someone else she might have met on her travels?

  • When she pauses from her travels, she opens up her restaurant which she runs with some of her closest family. Destiny's Reach is an Ala Mhigan restaurant that she started in order to share the beauty and taste of her homeland. Did you step in one opening night and meet her from across the calming atmosphere?
